Moving doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, there are plenty of simple ways to save money on your move. Whether you’re planning a local move, a long-distance relocation, or need help with storage, a little planning goes a long way. In addition to our Moving Checklist, we’re sharing 11 insider tips to help you save time, reduce stress, and lower your moving costs.

1. Declutter Before You Pack

The less you bring, the less you pay. Donate, sell, or toss anything you don’t truly need. Less weight means a smaller move and a smaller bill.

2. Pack Yourself (Or Go Partial)

Hiring movers for full-service packing adds to your total cost. Save by packing yourself, or let us handle just the fragile or tricky items with a partial packing service.

3. Disassemble Furniture in Advance

Beds, tables, and appliances take time to disassemble. If you do this before we arrive, we’ll be able to load faster — and that means a shorter move and a lower bill.

4. Label Everything Clearly

Write the destination room and contents on the top and sides of each box. The more organized your boxes are, the less time movers spend asking questions or hunting for rooms.

5. Stage Boxes Near the Door

If possible, stack all packed boxes in one room near the front door or garage. This helps our movers load the truck faster and more efficiently — cutting down on labor time.

6. Be 100% Ready When Movers Arrive

Have everything boxed, sealed, and ready to go before the movers arrive. Movers waiting for last-minute packing can quickly eat into your budget. Remember: time is money on move day.

7. Avoid Peak Moving Dates

If your schedule allows, avoid weekends, holidays, and the first or last few days of the month. These are the busiest times for most moving companies — and often the most expensive.

8. Limit Extra Stops and Pickups

Each additional stop adds time, fuel, and labor to your move. Try to keep the route direct to avoid additional charges, especially for long-distance moving jobs.

9. Measure Your New Home

Avoid paying to move oversized furniture that won’t fit. Measure doorways, stairwells, and rooms in advance so you can leave behind anything that won’t work in the new space.

10. Book Early

The earlier you book your move, the better your options. Early booking gives you more scheduling flexibility and may lock in lower rates, especially during peak seasons.

11. Be Transparent About Your Inventory

Providing an accurate list of what you’re moving helps us give you a realistic estimate. Adding items last minute can increase the scope and cost of your move.

Bonus Tip:
If you’re between homes or need to store items temporarily, ask us about our short-term and long-term storage solutions. Bundling moving and storage services with one provider often saves you money and simplifies logistics.
